Arlington Funeral brings Silver

This is a photo I took at Arlington National Cemetery that brought us a Silver Award in the Photojournalist Press catagory at BPPA in London.

The Old Guard Army Casket team is carrying the casket from the caisson to the gravesite. This winter I'm getting frequent questions about photos for funerals during the winter with bad weather. I'll post some images that show how exciting the imagery is during rain and with snow on the ground. This fall in particular I've had lots of rainy events and the images are some of my favorites. I've also got some snow images from last winter at Arlington that I will post as time permits

Mr. Quicksilver or Quickie

Mr. Quicksilver, return engagement

As I mentioned in a previous post, The Edge Photography won a number of awards in the British Professional Photographers Assoc competition.

Our two gold awards will be displayed in London next month at the societies annual convention for 2010. The photo above was only a bronze winner but the subject is near and dear to our hearts and touches many people the same way. Mr Quicksilver our Persian-Himalayan cat wins photographic awards on a continuing basis. For the last 9 years his images garner awards and I must admit I think it's more about his personality than my photography. There I said it, it's him not me.

Mr Quickie is getting old and although very mellow most of the time, he does have moments of old man crankiness.  This isn't my best image of the old guy, but he does bring a smile to many faces.

I will share some images with more photographic merit a bit later as time permits. Now back to hitting those Christmas delivery deadlines.

Col Washington Days 2009 and Gold

Awards from British Professional Photographers Assoc

We just got the results from the latest photography competition in London.

We received one Gold, two silver and a bucket of bronze awards for photographs in different photographic specialties. Above is a black and white image I created at the Col Washington Days last spring at Fort Frederick on the Potomac River in Maryland.

This event is a huge encampment of colonial reenactors trading goods, skills, and knowledge of the period during the French and Indian wars and leading up to the American Revolution.

The image was taken with a Nikon digital camera (D3) and converted to a black and white image in our digital darkroom.
