A memorial service at Arlington is of course a time for mourning the loss of a family member or friend but also a chance to celebrate their love of life and country.

We rented a wonderful log cabin located on the side of a ridge facing the mountains in the Park.

It had all the comforts of home and Hi-speed internet access which was great for checking emails.

More important was the hot tub on a deck suspended 20 feet above the steep moutainside below us. It made for great views as we watched the weather and fog move in and out of the valleys between us and the Smokies.

Attached are two images, one of the view of our cabins looking from the mountains back towards where we stayed and the other is a complex composition created from 5 photographs merged together to create a vertical panorama. This image was photographed with the Nikkor 400mm f3.5 lens on a tripod on a Nikon D300s camera giving an effective 600mm f3.5 lens with the digital crop factor. Pretty impressive glass. The ISO is 2000 at f4 and a shutter speed of 1/160 second.

We also visited the Ripley's aquarium in Gatlinburg one rainy afternoon, and as promised by our associate David Kay found it to be a great place with wonderful displays. Well worth the visit, unlike many of the other local attractions. I will post some photos from the aquarium later.

Now back to album edits for our clients, populating the images from 2009  for a new website and preparation for bridal shows.

I typically process 2000-4000 images each week so you think I would leave the camera at home, for a break, but I just can't stop taking pictures.

The Washington Bridal Showcase is coming up on January 31st at the Dulles Expo Center. Of course we will be there to meet with brides.
